Sunshine House Day Center
Our day center opens its doors every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 am to 2 pm. We gather together in community and offer a safe, welcoming place for visitors to rest, eat, drink coffee, and connect.
“As the mayor of the city, I believe it’s our job and our opportunity to serve every citizen we can,” he said. “We’re never going to cure homelessness, but this is a step in the right direction.”

Future Overnight Shelter
We’re expanding our services. Our new overnight shelter will open following necessary construction. Stay tuned for updates.

“Witnessing and being part of what Sunshine House is creating is a true gift. Seeing individuals and groups rally behind this important work is incredibly inspiring.”

Dyan Current
Dyan was born and raised in a small farming community in Oregon and moved to Shelbyville, Indiana, at age 21 with her husband, Don. She devoted twenty years to serving Shelby County as a firefighter/paramedic with the Shelbyville Fire Department. During those years, she also homeschooled their three children, and together she and Don opened their home as foster parents.
Faith and community have always been central to Dyan’s life. As an active member of Crossroad Community Church, she has long been committed to serving others. In 2016, she began volunteering with The Salvation Army, where she developed a deep connection with Shelby County’s homeless community.
That connection inspired her to take action. In 2024, Dyan opened a Community Center under the leadership of The Salvation Army to provide a safe and supportive place for individuals experiencing homelessness. Her desire to offer safety and care through the night grew from that work—and from that passion, Sunshine House was created.
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
