Our Story
Sunshine House was founded in 2016 from a deep-seated desire to address the critical needs of Shelbyville’s homeless population. It started as a small group service project at the Salvation Army and organically evolved into a thriving community center. We offer a safe space for connection, support, coffee, and conversation, which highlighted the profound need for a dedicated local shelter and comprehensive support system.
“We fell deeply in love with the people we serve,” shared Dyan Current, President and Incorporator of Sunshine House, Inc. “Through our interactions, we recognized that beyond immediate needs, safe sleep and a sense of community are paramount.” Recognizing that the nearest shelter in Greenfield is often an unfeasible distance for clients, Sunshine House is committed to providing a local refuge where individuals can be in their own community, surrounded by familiar and trusted faces.
Our Commitment
At Sunshine House, we are dedicated to recognizing and affirming the inherent value and dignity of each person we serve, without discrimination. We believe everyone deserves to be treated with respect and to have their individual needs met.
